International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program

Authorized IB World School!

On June 24, 2022, Sejong Academy’s Middle Years Program (MYP)* for students in grades 7-10 was authorized! IB World Schools share a common philosophy—a commitment to improve the teaching and learning of a diverse and inclusive community of students by delivering challenging, high quality programs of international education that share a powerful vision.

The IB Middle Years Program (MYP) was created in 1994, the second program of the International Baccalaureate after the Diploma Program (1962) (Grades 11-12). Two additional programs now exist: the Primary Years Program (Grades K-5) was founded in 1997 and the Career-related Program was revealed in 2012 (Grades 11-12)

The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end the organization works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment. These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
— IB Mission Statement**

There are 8 subject areas in the MYP. Click below to learn about the learning goals of each subject area for all Sejong Academy students in Grades 7-10:

Grades 7-10:

At Sejong Academy, Upper School begins with four years of the IB Middle Years Program* (Grades 7-10), culminating in the 10th grade Personal Project! IB MYP students in over 100 countries complete personal projects, while working towards service goals, to take agency and develop an excellent project that is personally meaningful. Successful students will go on to earn the official IB MYP Personal Project course certificate, recognized worldwide. The whole Sejong Academy community will celebrate every 10th grade scholar and their unique interests and accomplishments each spring.

Grades 11-12:

The attributes and skills acquired through the IB program in the first half of high school (MYP for Grades 9-10) will prepare Sejong Academy students very well for the choices they will make in the final two years (Grades 11-12) of our program. Faculty members work collaboratively to support each student towards the goal of completing all Minnesota graduation requirements to earn the Sejong Academy High School diploma at the end of their 12th grade year.
